Volkswagen (VOWG p.DE) said on Wednesday that vehicle deliveries fell 8.1 percent in 2021 to just under 4.9 million due to significant supply chain constraints. The automaker also predicted that the situation would continue unpredictable in the first half of this year.
According to the automaker, deliveries of wholly electric or hybrid cars increased by 73 percent from 2020 to over 369,000 vehicles, accounting for 7.5 percent of worldwide deliveries.
“Volkswagen achieved a satisfactory sales performance despite operating under tough conditions,” said Klaus Zellmer, Volkswagen’s sales and marketing head. Despite this, “the enormous impacts of chips on output were not able to be completely balanced.”
