Everything from TVs (they revealed some new ones at CES), washing machines, and refrigerators to, well, it’ll probably take less time to list the things that LG isn’t engaged in will probably take less time. It should come as no surprise that the corporation has a strong interest in innovation, as shown by the fact that LG Nova is the company’s relatively new North American Innovation Center. Based in Santa Clara, California’s Silicon Valley, the LG business unit is experimenting with new and exciting methods to collaborate with startups to promote its objective in some of its key growth areas.

Announcing the first firms that have made it into its shortlist for collaboration with the electronics giant at the Consumer Electronics Exhibition (CES) in Las Vegas, the corporation announced the show. A few characteristics are shared by all companies, emphasizing and reinforcing some of the company’s innovative areas that are of particular importance.

LG Nova aspires to be the node in the heart of the Venn diagram representing the whole startup ecosystem, which includes, of course, the companies themselves. When possible, it seeks to combine this with LG’s strengths and advantages, including the broader investor landscape, large tech companies and universities, the entrepreneur community, and, if suitable, its sales and marketing channels.

The Mission for the Future challenge is the current LG Nova program. This challenge is essentially a filtration system for finding the most promising entrepreneurs and startups. They can collaborate with LG’s entrepreneurs in residence to help them build businesses within the LG ecosystem. The mission for the Future is LG Nova’s yearly challenge program, which runs for nine months each year and seeks the best ideas, concepts, and enterprises from across the globe that will enhance the quality of life in a brighter, healthier, and more connected society.

Three significant themes for LG dominate this field. The first is linked health, which emphasizes doubling down on healthcare centered on meeting people’s wellness requirements at healthcare facilities, their homes, or via services in that space. Announcing its first two shortlisted companies, LG Nova named them XR Health, which provides virtual reality treatment rooms for telehealth services, and Maya MD. This digital, artificial intelligence health assistant uses LG’s televisions to encourage customers to engage in active conversations about their health.

According to the company’s representatives, the metaverse seems to be the second central area to which LG Nova is paying special attention, as part of what looks to be a more comprehensive examination of how humans and machines might engage in new interaction modalities. iQ3, which develops business apps and services for product training in the metaverse, and I3M, which creates a hyper-realistic virtual journey and tourist experience, were also unveiled.

As part of what LG refers to as its Energizing Mobility initiative, sustainable mobility is its third pillar in its innovation drive. SparkCharge is a fascinating startup working to make electric vehicle charging more transportable while still ensuring environmental sustainability. Driivz, on the other hand, is developing a kind of operating system for the administration of electric car charging stations.

Last but not least, LG Nova’s innovation pie chart includes a section devoted to Smart Lifestyles, which looks to be LG-speak for home automation technologies. Every day, a universal smart-key technology was chosen for this universe. Every day is an effort to use a single device to unlock your car, phone, and doors, as well as to keep your website logins safe, while A. According to the company, AI is a company working to integrate virtual assistant technology into LG’s hardware products. It explicitly targets households with home-care coordination issues for neuro-diverse audiences and others with similar problems. Chefling completes the smart lifestyle package by providing a planning solution, shopping for, and preparing meals tailored to your dietary needs and preferences.

The companies that have been launched provide a peep behind the curtain into the sort of things that LG Nova is searching for. The application period for the next batch of applicants will open later this year, and while at CES, I spoke with the program’s director to learn more about what LG is looking for, how the program intends to work with startups, and how to catch the attention of the incubator’s selection committee.
