Doordash co-founder and CEO joins Meta’s board of directors

Doordash co-founder and CEO Tony Xu have been appointed to the board of directors of Meta, according to a statement released by Facebook’s parent company on Tuesday. Xu has been the CEO of Doordash since 2013, and he was recently selected as the company’s board chair, which will take effect in November 2020. Meta informs us that Xu’s appointment is effective right now. With Xu’s work, the number of persons on Meta’s board of directors has grown to a total of ten.

“Every month, millions of small company owners rely on Meta’s products to help them expand and operate their operations. As the firm enters the next stage of its journey, I am looking forward to collaborating with the board of directors,” Xu stated in a news statement announcing the appointment.

Meta should make this announcement today since the business has placed a strong emphasis on commerce in recent years, as seen by the addition of multiple shopping capabilities to its various programs, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This year, the firm has concentrated on integrating retail and e-commerce elements directly into its services to keep consumers from leaving their applications.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement that Xu has extensive experience in tackling complex issues in commerce and that the business would draw on Xu’s skills as it develops the Metaverse. A significant role in the metaverse will be played by trade, which means that Xu will most likely advise the board on such topics.

Zuckerberg stated in a statement that Tony “has established a terrific service for millions of people to receive meals and more from hundreds of thousands of restaurants and small businesses.” “I’ve always believed it’s critical to have outstanding technology experts on our board, and Tony brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from his time operating a digital firm and addressing complicated business issues.” I’m looking forward to hearing his point of view as we go towards the metaverse.”
